took part in was a summer communal living experience called Gateway in North Philadelphia, where we focused on the history of and continued effects of racial injustice in Philadelphia. In addition, through the Gateway program I was able to get an internship as a lead staff worker and teacher in a free summer camp for kids living in the hood in North Philadelphia. At camp, I planned and taught classes and activities for a class of 6-7 year old’s with a fellow Swarthmore student for 8 hours a day, oversaw free time for the entire camp with several other co-workers, and helped kids of all ages navigate difficulties with each other and other staff.
